Symptomatic’s first title “Starcats” started development during the 2016-2017 school year as the Senior Game Design Class’ Capstone Project at Bradley University. After graduation, the game was accepted to E3 as a Top 5 Finalist of the College Games Competition and to IndieCade Independent Games Festival as an Official Selection. Given the positive reception Starcats received when showcased and the team’s willingness to continue work, producer Quentin Young started Symptomatic Productions so that Starcats would have a chance to be released to the public.
Starcats’ alpha build was accepted into E3 on May 12th, 2017 and officially launched a year later on May 17th, 2018. Ultimately, Starcats launched true to the vision of the college class that concocted it almost 2 years prior.
Starting Up and Settling In
Once the company and the team settled into Starcats development, Quentin approached Lead Designer Gage Melton in hopes of having Symptomatic publish his own side project, Color Cannons+. Over brunch in a small Peoria eatery, Gage agreed to publish Color Cannons+ under Symptomatic. Almost a year later, on September 21st 2018, Color Cannons+ and the Original Soundtrack by Matt Slifka was released.
Symptomatic remains in the Peoria area and hopes to provide local, independent developers the means to release their own games. Most recently, Symptomatic signed Ryan Hughes, Brie Rodgers and Rhianna Guptill on a limited development contract for their video game prototype WE ARE UNDYING.
